Weed ID Resources
The first step to successful weed control is often identifying the weed species present at your site. Our goal with every weed management project we take on is set with specific target weed species in mind. We use target weeds to decide which treatments, at what time of year, with which kind of equipment will deliver the best weed control possible.
Noxious weeds in Colorado are extensively documented through ongoing efforts by the State and many different organizations in Colorado.
- The Colorado Department of Agriculture maintains an up-to-date list of all species currently defined as noxious weeds in Colorado, and maintains the database with helpful identification information and reference pictures online.
- County governments also often provide noxious weed databases, and Jefferson County has a very helpful database with several images and a simple layout for identifying characteristics for each species.
- CSU extension published a pocket guide in 2013 to commonly found weeds across the front range, with simple steps to ID weeds and great reference photos. The guide covers some undesirable weeds that are not considered noxious as well, but is not a comprehensive list for all noxious weeds in Colorado.
